I believe that the Christian Story is the true Story of the world. It tells us that Man is made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26, 27), and therefore being human means to reflect God into the world.
The Story also tells us that along the way Man spoiled that image (Genesis 3), and though it is not completely erased, things have gone wrong ever since.
Like any good story, what goes wrong in the beginning is put right in the end. Jesus succeeded where we have failed. He is the perfect image of God (Colossians 1:15; Hebrews 1:3) without spot or stain. Through his death he overcame all that spoils creation and began to put the world right again. Now, as resurrected Lord of the world, Jesus works to renew the image of God in us so that we can be what we were intended to be, so that we can be fully human again with God’s image made new (Romans 8:1-4, 29; Ephesians 4:20-24).
A Christian, then, is just a short hand way of describing a fallen human being who has been and is being put right by Jesus Christ. Therefore, to speak of being a Christian is simply to speak of what it means to be human. Here at besimplyhuman.com I will discuss what it means to be a human being in God’s good but fallen world.
Creation was spoiled but Jesus began the work of New Creation. We carry on that work. We are building for a New Heaven and a New Earth. Join me as we learn, together, what it means to be simply human.
